Sightseeing in Toyama

The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a place where you can enjoy the Northern Alps,
which is a series of mountains with an altitude of 3000m.

Toyama Castle has a history of over 400 years.

  • Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route

    Kurobe・Tateyama

    A mountain sightseeing route in the Northern Alps,
    with mountain ranges over 3,000 meters in altitude,
    where you can enjoy nature that changes with the altitude,
    by riding 6 different modes of transportation,
    such as cable cars and ropeways.

    As I have been a guide on the Alpine Route for a long time,
    I offer a unique perspective on guiding visitors,
    different from general tours.

  • Mt. Oyama Shrine

    Tateyama-machi

    A shrine located on the rocky peak of Mt. Oyama,
    the main peak of Mt. Tate, one of Japan's three sacred mountains and spiritual places.

    It is crowded with many worshippers every year during the opening season.

  • Shomyo Falls

    Tateyama-machi

    Japan's tallest waterfall in terms of height.
    It has been selected as one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan.

    Like the Alpine Route, it is a spot where you can see various forms depending on the season.

  • Kurobe Gorge Railway Torokko Train

    Kurobe・Tateyama

    A railway that runs through a V-shaped valley and mountains.
    You can enjoy the powerful greenery in summer
    and beautiful autumn leaves on an open-air Torokko train.

  • Arimine Lake

    Toyama City

    A dam lake in a mountain gorge that has been selected
    as one of Japan's top 100 water source forests.

    You can also enjoy camping in the rich nature.

  • Tateyama Sanroku Ski Resort

    Toyama City

    The largest ski area in the Hokuriku region.

    It is a ski area consisting of three ski resorts:
    Awasu Ski Resort, Raicho Valley, and Gokuraku-zaka,
    where you can enjoy skiing all year round.

    Each ski resort has different levels of difficulty and activities,
    and is popular with various generations.

    Jooganji Park

    Tateyama-machi

    A city park located adjacent to the Joganji River.

    It is a nature-filled park popular with families,
    with tennis courts, barbecue areas, and picnic areas.

  • Toyama Castle

    Toyama City

    The symbol of Toyama.

    Toyama Castle, which was the residence of Sassa Narimasa and the Maeda family,
    the lords of the Toyama domain, has been partially reconstructed
    as the present-day Toyama Castle.

    There is also a museum where you can learn about its 400-year history.

  • Ooiwayama Nisseki Temple

    Kamiichi Town

    The head temple of Shingon esoteric Buddhism.

    As a part of the mountain worship in Tateyama,
    it is a spiritual spot that has the designated national historic site
    "Oiwahisshoji stone Buddha" and the important cultural property
    "Oiwahisshoji cliff Buddha," and is the most famous in the Hokuriku region.

    You can also participate in a waterfall purification ritual at Rokubontaki
    to purify your "six senses."
    The main hall also enshrines Fudo Myoo,
    carved by Gyoki Bodhisattva on the rocks of the Oiwagawa River.

  • Takaoka Daibutsu

    Takaoka City

    The symbol of Takaoka.

    This bronze statue of Amida Nyorai sitting
    measures about 16 meters in total height
    and is the third-generation Takaoka Daibutsu.

    After two fires, it was reconstructed as a bronze Daibutsu in 1933,
    bringing together the finest casting technology of Takaoka,
    a city of casting.

  • Zuiryuji Temple

    Takaoka City

    The temple where Maeda Toshinaga,
    the second lord of the Kaga Maeda family, is enshrined.

    It was built in 1614 by the third lord, Maeda Toshitsune,
    to mourn the second lord, Maeda Toshinaga.

    The beautiful architectural style is designated as a national treasure.

    The seasonal illumination is fantastic
    and attracts many tourists.

  • Uozu Aquarium

    Uozu City

    A natural science museum of the sea
    that covers the creatures of Toyama Bay.

    Exhibitions mainly focus on creatures from the streams of the Northern Alps
    to the deep sea of the Sea of Japan,
    allowing visitors to enjoy rare creatures.

  • Toyama Prefectural Tateyama Museum

    Tatayama-machi

    Learn about Tateyama.

    It is a museum where you can learn about the nature and mountain worship of Tateyama,
    and experience the Tateyama Mandala.

    You can also encounter the Japanese serow,
    a National Special Natural Monument.

  • Toyama City Family Park

    Toyama City

    A zoo where you can experience the countryside.

    From popular favorites such as tigers and giraffes
    to animals of the countryside like wild boars and Japanese raccoon dogs,
    you can see a variety of animals at this zoo.

    You can also enjoy various experiences such as horse riding,
    feeding animals, and boating on the pond on the premises,
    making it a popular spot for families.
